As part of the HLS monitoring programme we also champion and embrace the power of citizen science. Citizen science is the involvement of the public in scientific research – whether community-driven research or global investigations.
Our Two Trees Conservation Team (volunteers) actively contribute to the HLS monitoring citizen science programme, by recording observations of wildlife, collecting water samples, and/or surveying physical feature of the New Forest wetlands. This data allows us to work with scientists to help us to better understand the natural world and uniqueness of the New Forest.
Current Citizen Science projects
There are also several surveys of wildlife species undertaken as part of the HLS scheme, which help us assess the health of key species in the New Forest.
